Every single day, a truck loaded with plastic water bottles makes its way to Mcleodganj, quenching the thirst of thousands of residents and visitors. But once consumed, these bottles have nowhere meaningful to go. Most of them are discarded in dumping grounds, washed into our mountain streams, or left scattered in nearby forests. Over time, they break into microplastics, polluting our soil and water, harming wildlife, and spoiling the natural beauty of the Dhauladhar range. This plastic burden not only threatens our environment but also the very spirit of Mcleodganj — a town known for peace, spirituality, and harmony with nature.

We believe the time has come for change. Mcleodganj has the unique opportunity to become India’s first hill station to say NO to plastic water bottles and set an example for sustainable tourism. Instead of importing thousands of packaged bottles every day, we can rely on what we already have — pure local Himalayan water. With modern filtration and purification systems, we can provide water that is cleaner, safer, and fresher than bottled water.

Our vision is to create a network of water cafés and public dispensers across Mcleodganj — at bus stands, trekking routes, monasteries, and market squares — where anyone can refill their bottles with/ without cost. Cafés, restaurants, and hotels can be partners in this movement by offering refills to guests, replacing the culture of selling packaged water. To encourage travelers, we can promote the use of reusable steel, copper, or bamboo bottles, which not only last longer but also align with our eco-conscious values.

This is not just about waste management; it is about reimagining tourism. When visitors arrive in Mcleodganj and see a hill station that has consciously moved away from plastic bottles, they will carry that inspiration back to their own communities.

If we come together, Mcleodganj can lead the way for India and the world, showing that sustainability and spirituality can go hand in hand. By eliminating plastic bottles, we will protect our forests, streams, and wildlife, while strengthening the identity of Mcleodganj as a conscious, forward-thinking destination. This is not just an environmental step; it is a cultural and spiritual responsibility — to leave the Himalayas as pure as we found them, for generations to come.
